I spent roughly 37 nights (with most weekends being a full day of work) on this armour, while the Black Widow was taken care of by a friend within a day. As I was extremely pressed for time to finish it before renovation started in my home, and I wanted to make sure I did not waste any time, I decided to make a production diary to remind myself that I should update it every night.
I used a combination of regular and patterned foam for this project and hand-painted it with acrylics. The utilitarian approach of the design is wonderful as almost no alterations were done to the armour for ease of movement. I did not manage to install LEDs to the back, which is something I intend to address soon before this coming July. Tears happened along areas of tension, but otherwise everything held up very well during the con.
How I make it is by first getting the shapes that I need drawn out on a scrap paper (like the sheet of cardboard at the top of the picture) then take measurements of how big those shapes will be on my body by using a tape measure. I tend to give more leeway on the measurements so that I can trim it down later if I needed to. Then I just cut out the piece, lay it over my body, see if they fit and trim them if they don't. You might need some help for certain measurements, so just call a family member or friend to measure it for you. I also used a full length mirror a lot to check whether the pieces are of the appropriate size on me.
The N7 armour is a terrific design. Not a lot of confusing shapes like fantasy armour so it's actually not so bad to break it down and make it. All the best for your own set!
If you've got any questions, just ask. I'll try my best to answer them.
Now you need a team!
Garrus is probably too busy calibrating guns and Tali fixing FTL drives haha
The Black Widow once again proves to me how awesome my friend is in making props and armour sometimes +__+ I give him full credit for that!
Are you playing galaxy at war? lol I'm looking for people to squad up with.
